In 1977 The Toyota Technical Center was established. Stationed in Michigan, the division focuses on advanced research projects, powertrain, electric engineering, mechanical design and electronics. Over the next five years the Technical Center plans to add 250 new employees, making them better equipped than ever to embark on new endeavors.
What other kinds of pursuits, specifically? For starters, Toyota is looking to move out West by opening up a dedicated branch of their Technical Center in California's Silicon Valley. A long way from the division's Michigan home, the new office is aimed at increasing the collaborative efforts of the Toyota research and development arm in order to improve the third-party technologies that are featured in so many new Toyota models.
Such technologies that Toyota will work to improve include those found in the all-new Toyota Entune system, which is now available in a widely available. And while the system is based primarily on the Safey Connect telematics system, it utilizes a number of other services, companies, and networks that are deeply rooted in the Silicon Valley area. Some more notable ones include Apple, Bing, Blackberry, and Google.
